Monday Again
The 2016 quadrennial General Conference of The Wesleyan Church officially began on Saturday evening and continued with two great rallies yesterday – one focused on Global Partners and their international ministry and the other on church planting ministry here in North America. The business sessions begin this morning and will conclude on Wednesday. There will be many items of interest including the election of a new General Superintendent that will occur this morning. Two of the four Executive Directors that head our divisions will also be newly elected.
The entire proceedings can be viewed by live streaming available at www.wesleyan.org and by clicking on the Made New General Conference banner and scrolling down to WesLife Webcast. Lots of interesting stuff will be on the floor including the recommendations from the Membership Working Group; the vote on creating an Established National Conference for The Wesleyan Church of Canada; possible revisions on statements on marriage and divorce; fiscal issues; gender identity and a wide variety of other matters – check it out.
Our delegates have all arrived safely – Philip Bain, Kevin Campbell, Kelly Jay, Elizabeth Rhyno, Marti Trafton, Stephen Woodworth and Sharon Guptill, Tim Guptill (alternate serving in the place of Don Ingersoll who withdrew), Peter Moore, A J Plaizier, Scott Prime, A J Thomas.
This mystery shipment headed for General Conference has also arrived safely. Check next week for pics and details. What can it be????
NOTE: Just a reminder that the district office is closed this week. Karrilee, Peter and I are all in Buffalo for the General Conference. We are all available through email, text or cell phone. Karrilee will also be checking voice mail messages at the office.
FORT MAC CONCERT
On May 28, Don and Janet hosted a Compassion for Fort Mac Concert in memory of Lindsay. Over $8,000 was raised and given through 4 agencies working in Fort Mac. The church that Lindsay attended there had 39 families in the congregation who lost their homes in the fire.
