It’s Monday Again

Four years ago the Atlantic District DBA initiated a “Thrive” pilot to enhance the development of Licensed and newly Ordained Ministers as an addition to the DBMD process. Dr. Dan Poff has been onsite to teach the four distinct workshops each year for which he has written the curriculum. The final workshop at Beulah this week was entitled, “Leading from Who You Are” and included the completion of the Hirsch APEST Assessment and led participants and coaches to understand how to better equip the Church for ministry out of their God-given gifts. Each participant is assigned a six-month coach annually with experienced clergy to assist them in contextualizing the application of each workshop’s material.

The Atlantic District is grateful for Dr. Poff’s expertise and leadership which would not have been possible without a generous grant from Education & Clergy Development (Russ Gunsalus). Jay Guptill (Hillside) serves as the Thrive Coordinator and is a member of the DBMD Executive.

On Thursday, Jon Wiest met by Zoom with pastoral leadership from 10 Atlantic churches in preparation for the District Conference launch of our initial district focus in a 5-year values-driven vision. My DS Report will include more detail about how your church can get involved.

The 2019 Camp Evangelists, Lenny Luchetti and Moe Diggs, will serve alongside another inspiring year of worship ministry under the leadership of Kelly Jay. Check out this line up for Super Saturday kick-off for Beulah Family Camp on July 6th – don’t miss the opportunity to have your family and friends enjoy this packed day. SUMMER RELOCATION: The District Office is now at Beulah Camp (229 Beulah Road) and will move back to Moncton after Labour Day.

National Superintendent Stephen Elliott convened the Canadian Superintendents this week in preparation for our District Conferences and National Conference (see in Upcoming Events). Eric Hallett (lower right) is the sole nominee slated for election to succeed Peter Rigby as Central Canada DS this Friday. Peter Rigby has served since 2013 and I am pleased to be present this Friday in Trenton, ON to express honour for and appreciation of his leadership on behalf of the Atlantic District.

THOTS:

  • Because God believes in you, you also have the power to believe in someone else. Not everybody is ready to change and grow. You can’t help everybody, but you can help somebody. (Joel Gorveatte)
  • Never let an unmoved mountain keep you from worshipping God. (Chad MacCallum)
  • The future church will be filled with Christians who realize they’re called to make disciples, not just be disciples. (Carey Nieuwhof)

A call to carpenters and those handy with tools! Caton’s Island has become a shining light on our district. Throughout the years, hundreds of young people have received Christ as their Saviour and have continued on to become great leaders of this ministry.Caton’s Island is now preparing to embark on its largest and most ambitious project; to extend the present kitchen and dining room to seat 400+ people and to make a fully equipped restaurant quality kitchen. The Choate Dining Hall Expansion has already begun! We ask our pastors to present this project to the congregation and to set up teams that will coordinate with Brian Murray (Caton’s Island Overseer) who is project manager for this effort. Formal plans for all required equipment, electrical, plumbing, and other materials are now completed and we have presently raised $232K+ towards the total cost of $250K for Phase ONE which will be completed this summer. We do not wish to go into debt for this project, therefore we shall build in phases beginning with the structure this year. Then trusting those who see the great potential of Caton’s – to pray and donate time, expertise and finances. We have presently hired on-site manager and he will be developing and planning the work schedule along with Brian as project manager and Caton’s Overseer.

Pastors, if you would, please share this good news with your church family! Send your people and their questions for how to get involved to Brian Murray (spencerbrian@xplornet.com, 506.375.4330). Detailed plans and financial projections are available upon request.
