It’s Monday Again

Mother’s Day highlights were celebrated all over the Atlantic region in services yesterday. Ellen & I enjoyed spending time with both of our Moms. Spiritual heritage is a great blessing. My mother, Joyce, led me to the Lord as a 7-year-old missionary kid in Zambia and I will be forever grateful for her Kingdom influence!
Hope (Joanne Ozon) recently offered a very meaningful ministry for families with special needs children called Illuminate. On the following Sunday, her sister and key volunteer in this event shared a 2+ minute message worthy of your time. As we celebrate our mothers in this season, why not CLICK HERE to be inspired by this powerful reminder of the opportunity we have to serve one of the least reached people groups in our communities who are often forgotten and marginalized? Joanne would love to share the details of how you can offer this annual event through your church too!
Pentecost Sunday is June 5. We need the power of God’s Spirit for the living of these days! General Superintendent Wayne Schmidt is calling Wesleyans everywhere to a season of prayer inspired by the message of the Acts of the Apostles. CLICK HERE to watch this invitation and consider sharing this with your church family. There are the two ways to participate in the prayer experience portion:

Each day, we will read in the Book of Acts, and be guided in our prayers from a prayer prompt provided by Dr. Wayne Schmidt, General Superintendent of the North American Wesleyan Church. Then you have the opportunity to share your prayer on the prayer wall if you desire. And finally, click on the global voices section to hear prayers from around the Wesleyan world in various languages where our hearts can sense and be in agreement with the spirit of the prayer. So let’s join together as Wesleyans in days of earnest prayer as we read through the Book of Acts and pray for an outpouring of God’s Spirit around the globe.

At the conclusion of this journey, you will be able to view a Pentecost service (available for June 5) where our International Wesleyan Church leaders will lead us in prayer. This worship service will be able to be downloaded from www.Wesleyan.org/Pentecost for viewing at your convenience.

Kings (Brent Ingersoll) celebrated 18 child dedications at their locations yesterday – such a meaningful day of the year to highlight the spiritual legacy God entrusts to every parent. Brent recently shared a message entitled, “Into the Wilderness” which took a deep personal dive into the effects of the past two years. Grab a warm beverage and CLICK HERE to drink in this timely truth for us all.
John Sherwood (Crosspoint) recently announced that Blaire Nicolle will be joining the team in June as Worship & Creative Director. John shared, “We look forward to Blaire’s creativity and leadership in these areas of ministry.”
  • Yesterday marked the conclusion of service for Tim Guptill as Interim Lead Pastor with expressions of appreciation and cupcakes for all. Thank you Tim & Gayla for once again following the prompting of the Lord to serve our Crosspoint family during this significant season of transition – we are grateful for your sacrifice and Kingdom influence!
I enjoyed the opportunity to be with the Deep Water (AJ Thomas) team this week. Tammy Giffen (Groundswell) provided a leadership session which was followed by a tasty lunch with rich conversations. If you are in the Halifax area, CLICK HERE to check out The Seeking – an open invitation for the Church to gather over four nights of prayer, worship, and seeking a fresh work of the Holy Spirit.
National Superintendent Steve Elliott convened the National Board this week. We addressed a variety of matters including the happy news that the Blue Cross premiums will not increase for the coming year in the National Health Plan renewal.
Dusty Crozier (Parkway), pictured upper right, is providing passionate leadership with the blessing of NS Elliott for plans to conduct a nation-wide prayer tour in 2023 in the weeks leading up to National Conference in Calgary, AB in August next year. Dusty’s passion and creativity are being well resourced by the ad hoc planning team pictured above as we convened this week. Stay tuned for more of Dusty as he shares at our respective District Conferences this summer.
Tami Mutch-Ketch led another packed and energized meeting this week as mountains of logistical detail are coming together well for the exciting reunion ahead at Beulah Family Camp 2022. Please join us in prayer for an amazing week of God’s presence and work in our lives with the theme: Beulah’s Back – Now Is the Time for Renewal!

I always enjoy the monthly opportunity to gather with our Northeastern District Superintendents. I trust your Pastor Clusters are providing an opportunity for your encouragement and growth as you continue to process the excellent material in Emotionally Healthy Leader (Pete Scazzero) provided for those who registered for District Ministerial.

Ellen joins me in expressing heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Atlantic District to Dave & Jane Higle on Thursday’s passing of his mother, Barbara. Dave is appointed to denominational service from our ministerial tribe and serves with distinction and effective leadership through the Education & Clergy Development Division @ Headquarters. CLICK HERE for her obituary with opportunity to share personal words of support during these days of loss for the Higle family.
Points to Ponder
  • Jesus started with “abide in Me” before He called upon people to pick up their cross. (McCaila Andrews)
  • People function better in high trust environments. It’s really important to honour people. (Tammy Giffen)
  • Starting is fun but the future belongs to finishers. (Jon Acuff)

Refreshments will include muffins & donuts – coffee & tea – ice cream at Baleman’s after lunch!

One Conference was formed out of the desire to see churches in our region united in their pursuit of Jesus. Over the last few years, we’ve gone from being in ONE arena with massive crowds and energy, to being exclusively online during the pandemic. This year, we are excited to take a step toward having everyone together again soon! One Conference will be hosted at three sites throughout the region this year in Halifax, Moncton, and Saint John! Combined, these three sites will be able to accommodate everyone who wants to attend, and we’re thrilled to make this transition toward being together in ONE room once again in 2023. CLICK HERE for more information about how to register your youth group for your preferred location.

Thanks in advance for praying for the Atlantic District Delegates as we take part in these historic days of leadership in our denomination.

I joined David Zigler (Coastal Community) and AJ Plaizier (Yarmouth) in February to share our perspectives and experiences in developing and implementing what Pete Scazzero calls a Rule of Life. This was a companion conversation for the panel discussion offered on February 10th regarding Emotionally Healthy Leader. If you are new to the idea of having a Rule of Life, you will find the following resources helpful:
  • CLICK HERE to watch the recording of our conversation about having a Rule of Life (Feb 24th Zoom).
  • CLICK HERE to review why Emotionally Healthy Leader is so different from just any book on pastoral leadership (Feb 10th Zoom).
  • For those of you just getting started, CLICK HERE for an excellent resourceprovided by Dave Zigler to walk you step-by-step through the creation of your own Rule of Life.
  • CLICK HERE for access to additional materials that will help guide you through the prayerful creation of your own Rule of Life.
Pastor Cluster Leaders are encouraged to use these resources to inform and inspire the journey of renewal unfolding in the months ahead in our Clusters. I completed my 48-hour retreat in February to develop my own Rule of Life. I will be praying for each of you to make it a priority sometime before summer to go on a personal retreat as you ask the Lord to show you better ways for better days of abiding in The Vine.

Registration for Caton’s Island camps skyrocketed in the opening week of February 15th with 397 registrations plus 45 families for the two family camps. Registrations are continuing to roll in!
