It’s Monday Again

As previously shared over the past few weeks in IMA, the DBA has had growing concern regarding the safety, community witness, and fiscal viability of offering even a scaled back version of Beulah Family Camp unless the border between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick was guaranteed to be open with enough advance notice for adequate preparation time. Although the active cases in NS are dropping at a favourable rate, the responsible window of decision has come to an end and the DBA has determined there will be no Beulah Family Camp 2021 (neither virtual nor in-person).

While this is disappointing news on many levels, Executive Director Tami Mutch-Ketch has a team prepping several “plus up” weekends all summer long for those with RV rentals and cottages. Summer@Beulah will have a full schedule for July and August of activities, guest preachers, and worship teams posted in the next couple of weeks @ www.beulahcamp.com/summer/.

Caton’s Island Director Dean Stephenson shared the following expression of appreciation in THIS FACEBOOK POST, “A huge thank you to Bruce Cheney and Dick Sears for taking two days of their time to construct a new deck for our mainland dock. It’s a beautiful thing to behold. Also thank you to Cooke Aquaculture for donating the float beneath the deck.”Atlantic District Camp Ministry would not survive a single year without the hundreds and hundreds of volunteer hours and generous financial gifts of countless friends of Riverside Wesleyan Camp, Caton’s Island, and Beulah Camp & Conference Center. You know who you are. And so do we. Thank you each and every one!!!

Thank you to the those who were able to gather with the Perry family on Tuesday at the Kingswood Chapel to celebrate the life of Margo Perry. It was encouraging to see so many New Brunswick ministers from our district family who made this ministry to Walter and his children a priority. The tag-team sermon from her sons Graham & Kirk would have made their mother proud and was a touching and memorable tribute to a life well lived.

Congratulations to Rev. Dr. Erik (Ashley) Ireland (Kingswood University) as he was conferred on May 21st with a Doctorate of Ministry (Preaching & Leading) by Asbury Theological Seminary! His dissertation explored competency based education in ministerial preparation – a perfect fit for his leadership as the Director of Kingswood Extended.Dr. Ireland also serves on the Church Multiplication Advancement Team of The Wesleyan Church of Canada and has played an integral role in the development of the Mobilization Pipeline Cohort that will be offered this fall through Groundswell (Jon Wiest). We are blessed by the many ways he stewards Kingdom influence.

Hats off to the leadership of Tim Guptill (The Lighthouse) as they near the completion of the new worship facility. CLICK HERE for a 2.5 video minute update with John Lamos. A dedication service is scheduled for the final Sunday of June!
It was a privilege to serve alongside other denominational leaders this week in the first meeting led by Executive Director Russ Gunsalus to provide feedback and collaboration for the forward implementation of the Called Journey – a new DBMD competency based approach to ministerial credentialing. Much work will be completed this year in preparation for the Memorial presented at General Conference in May 2022.
I am always grateful for the wisdom, counsel, and shared leadership of our DBA Executive (pictured above). They serve upon request in addition to regular sessions with the full board. We are blessed by the unified and gifted leaders of our DBA.
Mike Zottarelli (Hillside) convened his Pastor Cluster recently as pictured above. The fall 2020 launch of 20+ groups has continued with monthly meetings throughout the pandemic and will conclude for the summer with their June cluster. Pastor Cluster Leaders will meet on Wednesday, August 18th @ 2:00 p.m. Atlantic Time to review the Pastoral Development material provided for the fall quarter as Pastor Clusters reconvene in Septemeber.
We have only one Atlantic District Superintendent Emeritus. And guess what? Today is his birthday! Why not take a moment and thank Dr. HC for his immeasurable and continuing impact in our Wesleyan tribe (I Timothy 5:17)? Just CLICK HERE to send “Dr. Emeritus” (as he is affectionately called on occasion) a personal birthday note. A once-in-a-century leader who deserves the double honour of his faithful and effective life of influence.
Points to Ponder
  • Surrender is not giving up. Surrender is not giving in. Surrender is simply the acceptance of your present reality. (Ray Smith)
  • Trust and vulnerability grow together. To betray one is to destroy both. (Brené Brown)
  • Every church is a multi-site from heaven. (Bob Roberts)
