It’s Monday Again

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10)

Our week began with a call by the DBA for a Day of Prayer & Fasting across the Atlantic District. More than 50 intercessors joined together on Zoom over lunch on Monday to seek the heart of God for these unusual days. Thanks to all who joined in (both by Zoom and in other ways and times) to unleash and unlock the presence and will of God in our church families and communities across the Atlantic region. #spiritualfoundations

COVID-19 innovative responses abound. Last night @ 6:00 p.m. Tim Guptill (The Lighthouse) was invited to share from The Word on CHCO TV (UHF Channel 26). This was broadcast as a community service especially with those in mind who do not have internet access, including some of the seniors of The Lighthouse church family. The Lighthouse Facebook Live service yesterday morning has had nearly 800 views already. There is a possibility this UHF broadcast may be an ongoing opportunity and can be viewed across New Brunswick @ 6:00 p.m. Sundays on Fibe – 26, Cable -126, or Bell-TV Satellite – 539. Tune in this Sunday and spread the news!

  • Blacks Harbour (Dr. HC) staff are making house calls. Well, sort of. Drive by pastoral visits involve pulling into the front of a home and calling those inside. They wave through the window and share words of encouragement concluding with prayer. Assistant Pastor Mark McCluskey shared, “It certainly isn’t technically innovative but it is contextually effective.”

Executive Director Tami Mutch-Ketch and District Clergy Care Director Dr. Allen Lee(Kingswood University) conducted a Zoom orientation for a team of lay intercessors. This Lay Prayer Task Force is directed by Tami and will be making contact over the coming weeks and months with our pastoral families to offer encouragement and prayer as they serve and lead on the front lines of ministry. Atlantic Ministers are encouraged to recommend additional intercessors for this team as directed in an email received this week. #strongertogether

The Central DBMD Members convened for a full day on Wednesday to conduct 27 interviews with Ministerial Students and Licensed Ministers. We are blessed by the investment of these leaders under the excellent leadership of Chair Dale MacDonald (Woodstock) in serving the DBMD process. Thursday followed with the DBMD Executive holding two Ordination interviews. These continue to be exciting days to see how God is raising leaders to see His Kingdom come in the Atlantic region as it is in heaven. #raisingleaders
On Friday, I met by Zoom with some of our Atlantic Ministers to discuss best practices in these unique days of ministry. We shared perspectives the specific challenges for those in the meeting and had opportunity to pray together. I would welcome any pastor to join me for an optional Zoom meeting on Wednesday @ 10:00 a.m. Atlantic Time. This will include Q&A regarding our mutual response to COVID-19 and collaborative problem solving for your church challenges. (Just email me for the link if you are interested.)
Ellen joins me in expressing sincere condolences on behalf of the Atlantic District family to Frank & Carolyn Melanson and family on the passing this week of his sister Louise Rogers on March 25th. Frank was privileged to lead his sister to Christ three weeks ago – PTL! Louise is also the Aunt of Jamin (Naomi) Melanson (Amherst). Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Points to Ponder

  • Don’t deny or obey your feelings – pray your feelings. (Joel Gorveatte)

World Hope International – Annual Spring Gala

This exciting event is now rescheduled to Friday, June 19th 2020 at Wesley Hall (Kingswood University). Please mark your calendars for this date!

Psychologist Dr. David Clark and Sociologist Dr. Nancy Nason-Clark invested their expertise and experience with about 25 Atlantic Ministers in March who joined by Zoom for a session entitled, “Leading in Anxious Times.” David & Nancy graciously agreed to re-record a 45 minute version of this session which is available HERE for your leadership team. Dr. Clark references resources worthy of note including www.anxietycanada.com and the offer by Dr. Clark to add any pastor to his distribution list (just email clark@unb.ca) for new resources in development to address “continuous traumatic stress” factors.
Another resource for dealing with anxiety is www.outwittrade.com/how-to-deal-with-anxiety.
