Baptism 18 &19 in the First Year!
They came to South Church (Tom Cann) as a result of the community outreach Easter Egg hunt. Fast forward to just one weekend before the first anniversary of South Church on September 25th and this mother-daughter duo were baptized together in Brazil Lake. An incredible first year of many more to come for this multi-church site of Yarmouth (AJ Plaizier).

  • Tom shared, “They’ve plugged into small groups and help serve in our kids ministry on Sunday mornings. They were intrigued by the idea that God likes them, and are now living for Him! He’s doing something new in the south end. We’re witnessing whole families transforming. Bible studies are popping up in homes organically. Celebrate Recovery is finding new life on Monday nights. God has been very good to us.”
More Baptisms @ Solid Rock!
This weekend Reset Sunday at Solid Rock (Peter Hayes) encouraged the church family to get back to church in the routine of fall. The morning started with coffee in the foyer which was followed by our kids on stage to share a song with us before heading off to Kid’s Church. Peter shared, “It only got better from there as we baptized two ladies to end a Spirit-filled service. In the words of one of our founding members – I felt the presence of Holy Spirit there! After the service, we had 7 teams participate in a scavenger hunt and ended the day with a picnic at a local park. Praising the Lord for His goodness as we had over 50 in attendance with at least 3 first time guests!”

  • Peter continued, “God has been on the move here! Just a few weeks ago, a Nigerian family moved to St. John’s. After spending time in prayer over a multitude of church websites, they felt God lead them to Solid Rock and it has been a blessing for all of us! We have prayed for housing and God provided. We have prayed for household items, including furniture, and God has provided. Although it isn’t yet Love Atlantic week, we have been very much loving on this family.”
20 YEARS OF WELL-WALKS!
On Sunday, September 18th, Nackawic (Ryan Farrell) had their 20th annual Well Walk! Over 40 people walked in the rain to raise money for clean water and 75 people attended the church service afterwards (the highest in-person attendance since pre-pandemic. They are partnering with World Hope International to drill a well in Sierra Leone and this year’s walk was in memory of two community members who recently passed away.  Over $8K was received in the offering for this special ministry project and West Head (Vince Robertson) is partnering to provide the remaining amount needed of $5K for this well.  Special guests included Pastor’s Carl and Evelyn Brewer and WHI Canada CEO, Tanya Nace.
The third Atlantic Pastoral Installation of 2022 took place yesterday at Perth Andover. This growing multi-generational church family celebrated the official beginning for Lead Pastor Dave Hartlen alongside his gifted partner in life & ministry, Sonja, who is also pursuing credentials with the Atlantic District.

  • Dave was Ordained this summer and he and Sonja have two wonderful daughters, Adeline & Aria. The future is bright for the Perth Andover family and our deep appreciation was expressed in Sunday’s installation for the mentoring and sacrificial leadership of Reg Thomas in preparing the church for this new day. An exciting update on the Thomas’ is listed below…
I have a lot to learn about leadership. One of the very best parts of this Kingdom role is that I am constantly in rooms where my thoughts and decisions are shaped by the wisdom of others. Wisdom in the counsel of many the Good Book says – and I could not and would not want to serve without this reality – my gratitude runs deep.

  • Our DBA Executive (bottom pic) convened this week to address a variety of district matters. Their insights and care for our Atlantic Tribe are a huge gift to us all.
  • The top group of Kingdom colleagues was taken early in September during my monthly “Pastor Cluster” with the Northeast district superintendents. Encouragement and shared learning are regular menu items for this monthly leadership feast.

And speaking of Pastor Clusters – many have already reengaged this fall, but I will be gleaning feedback during the Fall Roundtables (in keeping with the email you already received) as we regroup on how they will best serve you in a post pandemic context of ministry.

Love Atlantic Registration Still Open!
110 Kingdom locations and partners have already registered to join Love Atlantic! There is still time to register your church family so you do not miss out on being part of what God has in store to let our good works and generosity shine for His glory.

It is exciting to see how the unity of the Church is preparing for a powerful message of impact in our region. CLICK HERE to check out all the excellent resources available to help your church get involved.

The following bullet points are excerpts taken from local church newsletters that are already on board – if you haven’t signed up, don’t miss out on this incredible blessing for your spiritual family – it’s not too late!

  • Imagine what God will do! The goal of Love Atlantic is not to bring credit to any particular person or church, but to direct the glory to God.
  • Our prayer is that the goodness of God will shine brightly across the region as we demonstrate radical generosity in Jesus’ name.
  • As of this email, there are 103 churches signed up to participate! Please sit back and read that again- One Hundred and Three Churches. No one made them do this, no authority is cracking the whip, no incentives are being offered.  Just people willing to come together and do something far more significant than if we all did our own thing.  When was the last time you ever heard of 103 churches partnering … for anything!
  • As followers of Jesus across a broad spectrum of faith traditions band together, may we embody the unity of the Spirit and direct the glory to the One we serve.
  • It’s out of His unending generosity that we give. This is always true in each and every season, but specifically during this one week, let’s pull out all the stops to intentionally see just how much love we can show in Jesus’ Name.

Rev. Dr. Ken Gorveatte’s Memorial Service @ Beulah
Ellen joins me in expressing sincere condolences on behalf of the Atlantic District family for Mrs. Merle Gorveatte on Saturday’s passing of her husband, Ken. All four of Ken’s children were present with Merle’s children and many spouses and extended family. Jay & Sharon Guptill (Browns Flat Fellowship) led the service with remarks from DS Mark Gorveatte and a heartwarming Gospel message from Joel.

The Beulah Dining Hall was packed as friends and Kingdom colleagues gathered from around the Atlantic Tribe to show support for the family in the Celebration of Life for this man of God who completed 60 years of Ordained ministry this summer. I was honoured to join Pastor B and Steve Bradley in sharing in this memorial service. CLICK HERE for the obituary.

We continue to lift up the following families in our ministerial family who are grieving loss.

  • For Dave & Vicki Rowe (Framework) on Thursday’s private family graveside service this past week in Charlotte for his father, David. We offer condolences as well to his mother, Hazel, and their children Victoria (Framework) and Tyler. CLICK HERE for the obituary and to share condolences.
  • Also for Fred & Melissa Whittier (Saint John First) on Sunday’s Celebration of Life for her father, Sheldon Lomax, in the service led by Graham Perry. We offer condolences as well to her mother, Trudy, and their children Caleb and Meagan. CLICK HERE for his obituary with opportunity to post condolences.
Congratulations to Reg & Janice Thomas
Yesterday marked the beginning of a new ministry chapter for Reg & Janice Thomas as he has accepted the appointment as Lead Pastor in Interchurch Service for First North River Baptist Church.  Congratulations on behalf of your Atlantic Wesleyan family with deep gratitude for the many years of Kingdom leadership you have invested!

  • A word of appreciation is also in order for Angela Flewelling who concludes her three-year ministry this month as Assistant Pastor of Encounter (Jim Agrell).
  • What I’ve appreciated most through the years has been the Queen’s openness to talk about her faith and her relationship with Christ. She was never shy about speaking of her faith and the difference that faith made in her life. She was my Queen, but more importantly, she was my sister.  (Denn Guptill)

Abuse Prevention Ministry Training – Two Options

The national office of The Wesleyan Church of Canada is pleased to announce an “Abuse Prevention” webinar in partnership with the organization Plan to Protect. The live webinar will take place on two Saturdays – October 15th & 29th from 10:00 a.m. to noon Eastern Standard Time (11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Atlantic Time). These are identical live presentations so participants only need to choose to attend one of the two events.

All pastors, leaders of specialized ministries, board members, and/or lay ministry leaders who work with children, teens or the vulnerable are welcomed and highly encouraged to attend. Cost is $5/person and is made payable to your local church, which will forward the registration fee to the national office. Join us as we proactively take steps to reduce the likelihood that any form of abuse would tragically happen in or through the ministries of our local churches, camping/retreat ministries, counseling centres, chaplain ministries, global ministry settings, etc.

Click on the QR codes above to register, and then submit the $5 fee to your local church treasurer and ask them to forward this payment to our national office. You may also register by clicking to select the link for your preferred date of participation:
