A dual Celebration of Life Service for Dr. William & Wilma Burbury was officiated yesterday (July 1st) by Bud Fancy at Framework Church in Presque Isle, Maine. While their passing was not recent (Bill’s 2020 obituary & Wilma’s 2023 obituary), the timing for the four children and all of the extended family proved to be exactly what they had hoped would be a wonderful day of remembrance. Special thanks to the Atlantic ministers and spouses and Kingswood staff who were present in support of the family.
  • I was honoured to bring remarks on behalf of our Atlantic District & Kingswood University families. Bill & Wilma shared a lengthy and rich legacy of serving and leading amongst us. The graveside service included the protocol of military honors for his service in the United States Armed Forces. It was a beautiful day that inspired all those present with the esteemed lives of two faithful Kingdom stewards.
Port Maitland (Barry Vernon) celebrated two baptisms this weekend. The teenager pictured on the right had his uncle assisting who is the Youth Pastor in a local Baptist congregation and the gentleman pictured on the left has only been attending the PM family for a few months – PTL!
Andy Phillips (The Reach) shared, “Moosabec Summerfest 2024 was a blast! The communities of Jonesport-Beals have a week-long celebration with daily special events this time each year and The Reach Wesleyans were there throughout. Our main focus each year is Kid’s Day. Our dunk tank is always a big hit! We highlight Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Project as we announce the dates and themes for VBS and we give away something. This year we drew names for 4 kids beach backpacks (pictured upper right) to go with the Scuba VBS!  On Saturday, we had a bake sale fundraiser and put a float in the parade to promote VBS as well. Sunday ended the week with a combined church service under the tent with all the churches joining together. Pray with us that seeds planted will grow!”
156 campers enjoyed the first of two Family Camp Weekends on Caton’s Island this summer. It was an amazing weekend to learn about how to be a better trainer as a parent as we look at the good, bad and ugly in life; what it means to be an influence – and a reflection of Christ in our homes. Camp Speakers Jay & Sharon Guptill (Browns Flat Fellowship) are excellent role models and mentors to teach that parents are still the #1 influence in children’s lives.

KC Kids Camp (Valley Location)
This week, Kings (Brent Ingersoll) held two KC Kids Camps with more than 300 attending at the Valley and Charlottetown (Jon Robertson) locations. Linda Lamos and her amazing team are working diligently over the summer to offer this disciple-making experience at all Kings locations. And speaking of the priority of children’s ministry…

This weekend I enjoyed attending the Kings West (Adam Brewer) men’s breakfast. Ray Smith delivered a challenging word from The Word. I sat beside Al Stewart (pictured lower right) and to my delight learned that Al was a kid in my Dad’s Sunday School class at Crosspoint (then Olivet Wesleyan) in the early 1960’s.

  • Pretty amazing to be reminded of how we may never know the lasting impact of our investment in the discipleship journey of children. If you are one of those who serves the families in your church and community through kids & youth ministry – take heart and know the seeds of His Truth you are sowing will not come back empty.
The life of Mr. James K. Irving was powerfully celebrated in the Saunders-Irving Chapel this Wednesday. The service was officiated by Dr. H. C. Wilson along with Rev. Mel Norton. The message was delivered by Dr. Art Maxwell and the service included a men’s choir directed by Rev. Don Ingersoll as well as congregational and special music provided by Dave & Bethany Klob, and Betty Weatherby.

  • Mr. Irving’s four children offered a moving tag-team eulogy. Special thanks to all those who were able to participate in the choir and for those who attended the service. The Saint John First (Graham Perry) family, the Atlantic District, and Kingswood University were all represented with strength in support of the family. CLICK HERE for Mr. Irving’s obituary with opportunity to share condolences and your personal expression of gratitude for the many ways he and the late Mrs. Irving have been a channel of the Lord’s blessing for the Church in the Atlantic region.
The Irvings have been a cherished part of our Wesleyan family over the past four decades. Here are a few excerpts from their children’s masterful eulogy for their father…

  • Their love was a constant melody in our lives. (Judith)
  • He had passion that he passed on to all of us. (Mary-Jean)
  • He was a great teacher who led by example. The strong relationships we share as children are because of how our parents taught us. (Robert)
  • “Make things happen!” was one of his well-known expressions. (James)
